RYA Radio Course

For other dates please contact for availability, we will run a course for a minimum of 4 people, we can also run this over two evenings to suit. For venues outwith Banff these are run over one day & require 6, although feel free to contact ourselves with your requirements.

This one-day VHF course teaches the basics of RYA VHF radio operation, the correct frequencies (channels) to be used and distress, emergency & medical assistance procedures. On the VHF Course you use real radio equipment rather than simulators, enabling you to become confident in using the various controls and DSC (Digital Selective Calling) functions. The RYA VHF course is structured to discuss the changes to the VHF radio network with the implementation of the Global Mari-time Distress System (G.M.D.S.S.). Successful completion of the RYA VHF course will authorise you to operate a VHF radio fitted with DSC on any vessel which is fitted with VHF. It is a legal requirement that to use a VHF set you must hold a valid VHF license. Course price £85.00 plus £30 licence fee paid to the RYA. Discounts are available for group bookings, this course can also be offered at a venue of your choice or in Banff.
