RYA Powerboat
Course Outline
The industry standard, RYA Powerboat Level 2 is the base-level course for anyone operating a RIB or small powerboat This is a two day course and will provide a good foundation on which to build powerboat experience. We aim to spend around 70% of the course in the boat gaining practical skills and the 30% of the course on shore based theory. It covers such topics as:
- Slow and high speed boat handling
- coming alongsid
- anchoring
- man-overboard drill
- mooring up
The small amount of theory is used to underpin skills acquired on the water.
Content & Objectives
The course will cover the following subjects:
- Launching & recovery
- Boat Handling
- Securing to a buoy / Anchoring
- Slipping a berth and coming alongside
- Handling at high speed
- Man overboard and recovery
- Trim and tilt
- Safety equipment and uses
- Navigation including tides and buoyage
- Passage planning
- Awareness of other water users
- Communication
Entry Requirements
There are no pre-requisites for this course, and most participants will not have taken the level one qualification. All course are generally held at Banff marina weather and tides permitting.
